Disabled email addys

Monday, August 23rd, 2004 | Blog Stuff | 2 Comments

I’ve disabled my comments sections from displaying people’s email addresses… I had the ‘protect spam’ setting set before but a buddy got a strange email to his email referencing my blog which caused me to worry. Upon poking around I realized the protect against spam setting in MT didn’t do much that a novice engineer couldn’t code around… So now i’ll display a link to your blog if you post but not to your email address.. I still require email addresses (just as a basic level of security against the fucking blog spammers) but I don’t show ’em..

of turning off comments… FUCK I hate Spammers… I would love to get my mits on just one of those bastards and smack ’em around. it feels like such a violation.

Sorry.. just had to vent after blasting a whole collection of ’em… now back to our regularly scheduled program… ๐Ÿ™‚

New Blog Tool

I’ve been using Kung-Log for some time to post to my blog and have been LOVING It… Really handy interface to MT that is very Mac OS X friendly.. Well I went to their website today and it looks like they’ve been busy… There is a new iteration on Kung-Log called ‘ecto‘ that seems like a good set of upgrades on Kung-Log – largely flash and improved interface as far as I can tell – but still very cool! ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday Five

Sunday, November 30th, 2003 | Blog Stuff | Comments Off on Friday Five

  1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not? Not at all… And why? Because I don’t have the cash for the things I really want to buy. Clothes and toys are so damn expensive. The only thing I really enjoy shopping for are books – and my bedroom and office are evidence. I think I got that from my dad.
  2. What was the last thing you purchased? A bunch of geek books from Stacy’s. I LOVE that store.
  3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why? Depends on what for. When it comes to books I prefer going to the store – I like being able to thumb through them and see if it has what I need. Otherwise I kinda prefer online cuz its faster.
  4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it? 50ร‚ยข to $1 when I was a little kid.. When I got to high school it suddenly went up to $20 for some reason.
  5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing? Damn fine question. Probably every computer game I buy. I keep buying them thinking I’ll like them only to be disappointed. I just need to deal with the fact that I’m not a computer game kind of guy.

Blog rolls are hosed

Monday, November 17th, 2003 | Blog Stuff | 3 Comments

Argggg… Something happened overnight and my blogrolls have gotten hosed – everything listed has been replaced by a single link… not sure if blogrolling got hacked or if its just a bug but until it gets fixed I’m pulling mine…

Bums me out.. thats where I kept my links to all my favorite blogs… Arggggggggg

UPDATE: Looks like blogrolling.com got hacked over the weekend.. Bummer… They’ve restored from backup and I’m gonna see about exporting my rolls so I don’t loose my links to y’all..

Ugg… Do ya ever get the feeling that there is a shocking lack of morals and respect on the loose these days? Between the frequent mop-up I have to do from comment spam, the amount of time we ALL waste with email spam, and hackers pulling stunts like this I’m starting to get really angry (ok.. well not starting). I’ve been sorely tempted to disable comments on my blog cuz of this but thats part of what I enjoy about blogging is the interaction. I’ve heard all the hacker and spammer justification for why they feel they have the right to pull these stunts and, frankly, its all bullshit. Just because our legal system hasn’t caught up with technology (and probably never will) doesn’t give them the moral right to invade our privacy in cyberspace any more than it gives them the right to crawl through the windows of our house… It is all a violation and a simple lack of human respect for other people that they get away with because they’re protected hiding behind their keyboards in some remote location.

Uggg…Sorry… Just venting… this kind of thing just REALLY pisses me off.

Oh.. And thanks to the folks at blogrolling for mopping up after this mess – they shouldn’t have to and I wish I could help them out somehow… Good luck

Connections

Just got back from having a beer with Corin, his partner Jett and a friend of theirs from some time ago… Corin and Jett were out visiting San Francisco for the weekend and our schedules finally collided tonight.. Was great meeting all of them – VERY nice guys.. Felt bad though cuz I was this weird cross between being too tired to stand and a chatty cathy (don’t ask me how that happens – probably the massive amounts of coffee I consumed today)… But I had fun!

At any rate… was great meeting you both – hope to see y’all again some time soon! I’ll make sure Kevin can join us next time..
