I think it works

Wednesday, July 30th, 2003 | Blog Stuff | Comments Off on I think it works

By george – I think I got it working…. The new home seems to be up and happy as far as I can tell and i’ve hidden most of the stuff on the old one (though it still exists so people’s links won’t break)…

Now the real trick is finding all the places where I’ve laid links to the old URL and get those update (not to mention getting others to update their links)… Would be SO NICE if there was an easy way to do that automatically – kinda like DNS does… Just change the pointer in one place and everyone else gets the updates magically… Would be cool if blogrolling did that at least – you add a link to someone’s blogrolling entry if they have one so if they move the domain you’ll follow the move..

Ah well… Any hints would be appreciated…

Update your Links

Moving vans are rolling up for my Blog… I’m moving it over from Matt’s domain over to mine… So if you have links to http://www.fullerbrantner.com/swimfinssf/ please change them to point to http://www.swimfinssf.com/ – I’m going to be trying to get everything pushed over to there…

Not sure if this will go without a hitch but I’ve got my fingers crossed! 🙂

domain shuffling

So I FINALLY broke down and got a place to host all of my various domains so I’m in the process of shuffling things around… Ultimately i’ll be moving my blog onto one off those domains but for the time being it’ll stick here since I need to learn how to setup and configure MT on my own (Matt has been kind enough to handle that for me thus far)… I also need to rework my old personal web site so it doesn’t look so dated – its been offline since we moved and when I pulled it out of mothballs this morning it was a HUGE disk space hog (since I was hosting it myself) and was kind of dated..

So stay tuned – there are changes afoot..

😉

Weekly Wrap-Up #53 – Birthdays

Monday, May 5th, 2003 | Blog Stuff | 1 Comment

1. When is your birthday?
July 7, 1970… Made me 7 years old on 7/7/77… Just love that cuz I had nothing to do with it and its totally silly..

2. How accurate is your zodiac sign?
I have no clue… I may very well be the only gay man in existance that doesn’t know a damn thing about ‘my sign’ nor do I care…

3. What do you typically do to celebrate your birthday?
Hang out with friends. My absolute favorite thing to do for my birthday is dinner and time with my friends.. Since my B-day is in the summer a bbq is GREAT… Brings out the social beast..

4. Do you like to receive presents? Why or why not?
Only if they’re silly joke presents… Fact is i’m one of these that buys things I the minute they pop to mind but it can be fun to see how creative (and crude) people can get…

5. Describe the best birthday and/or present you ever had.
2 of them pop to mind. First was in college – I interned in SF every year so I was away from all of my college friends on my birthday every year which REALLY sucked… So one year my friend Christy got everyone together – in Colorado I might add – and threw a big birthday party. One person had a video camera and taped everything.. Then they boxed up the video tape along with all of the party streamers, open gifts, and other party remnants, and mailed ’em to me so I could see the birthday party… Sounds kinda cruel but made me feel special..

The second was my 30th birthday party.. Kevin threw a surprise party for me for my b-day – which generally never works… But he and a bunch of my friends were in on it… Chris brought me out for cocktails in cupertino and stalled and stalled – all the while I talked to kevin who said he and I were going for dinner and then meet people at the end up… i’m thinkin – hmmm.. that sucks.. my 30th birthday and thats it. Dinner at the usual and then MAYBE a drink… Chris drove me home and dropped me off… Walked in the door and saw balloons on the floor and like EVERYONE I KNEW was there.. was SO NICE…

Weekly Wrap-up #52 – Jobs

Sunday, April 27th, 2003 | Blog Stuff | Comments Off on Weekly Wrap-up #52 – Jobs

1. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Hmmm… I switched what I wanted to be ALL the time – it depended on what book my parents gave me to read at the time… I remember wanting to be an archeologist at one point because of a national geographic book I had on ancient egypt I had (LOVED the hieroglyphics and the cool costumes). I also wanted to be a teacher… used to play school ALL THE time with my brothers and sisters… Even got teachers to give me the ‘teachers editions’ to old books and left over dittos they didn’t use..

2. When did you get your first job? What was it?
I wasn’t allowed to get a job until my senior year in high school. My mom didn’t want me having work conflict with my school work. When I finally got one it was as a cashier at Knowlwoods restaurant in Irvine… Really hated it – hard work for not much money but it gave me mad money. Once I got into college I worked in random computer related jobs and by my senior year I was workin 3 jobs and goin to school – mostly cuz I enjoyed the work more than I enjoyed the classes I was takin..

3. What is your job now? Do you like it? Why or why not?
Now I’m a software engineer working on Final Cut Pro at Apple Computer. I actually love it now although its kickin my ass right now… REALLY Smart group of people and its kinda fun working on a product that people use for real life stuff – especially when you see the name of your product go by in the credits of a movie! :)…

4. What would be the worst job for you to have? Why?
Customer service of any kind (see my first job). Provided people are respectful I really enjoy interacting with people and customers. I have a ball working at trade shows answering questions for people. But customer service is a fucked up offshoot of that where customers seem to think that, because they bought a product, they’ve earned the right to treat people like dirt and I don’t have much patience for that.. Putting me on the other end of a phone or service counter from those kind of people would be a bad idea – Long as people are respectful I’m sure I’d be perfectly helpful – but I think i’d probably come out of my face at ’em if they started bein snots… 😉

5. What would be your ideal job if you could chose it? Why?
Hmmm… I’m thinkin the ideal job for me would be high tech training or teaching of some form though I haven’t quite found how that would work out just yet… But it seems that would be a great combination of all the things I love.. I LOVE to travel… I REALLY enjoy helpign people learn… And i’m a geek at heart… so it seems like a fun fit… Just haven’t found the right place to do that yet…
