Gay Stuff
Take THAT
KICK ASS:
Its nice to know that there is SOME sanity in the world. We talked about this at length in my carpool yesterday with one of my straight carpool buddies. Its weird to talk to the people I know (gay and straight) and see how few people support the amendment (or even understand why others care) and yet see so many people in the news that seem to be so gung ho to write discrimination into the constitution…
Anyway.. Another point for the good guys! 🙂
Pride in the City
Oh my LORD… Pride weekend always sneaks up on me… Between all of the tourists in from out of town when I went to get diner last night and the GIANT rainbow protein shaped balloons all over the gym it seems to be that season… I’m not complaining mind you – just makes me giggle.. Especially goin to dinner last night.. I stumbled down to cactus fresh to grab dinner after a long day with some random geek book and it took me a minute to figure out why there were all these cute boys that I didn’t recognize with smiles on their face coming and going from bars I usually avoid.. Then remembered…
Anyway.. Happy Pr ide… Hope to see y’all this weekend! 🙂
Just kinda sad
So I decided to take a personal day tomorrow (or..um.. today I guess it is now) and, as a result Matt and I decided to go out dancing after dinner and the gym… Could have gone out for cocktails but Matt really had an itch to jig and who am I to complain… So we headed down to the Stud in hopes that, even though Reform Skool is no more, there might be something goin on… Nothing.. So we prowled around south of market for a while to no avail… Then we headed back to the ‘stro in hopes of finding something to do or at least a gay rag with ideas… The scene in the Castro really isn’t my thing for dancing. There are a few that I’ll hit for cocktails (Moby Dick, The Bar on Castro, Badlands, etc.) but none for dancing. Mind you people do dance there – i’m just not one of ’em..
Finally we found a copy of the local rag in hopes of pointers – after leafing through we found a few spots we hadn’t heard of back in SOMA and nob hill so we checked ’em out… ALL VERY SAD…
Ok… So I know I’ve lived in this town long enough that I”m more than a little jaded about the social options around but JEEEZZZZ…. Isn’t there anything goin on in this town during the week or do we have to wait for the weekend or move to NYC?
Ah well.. kept me out of trouble I suppose! 🙂 g’night! 🙂
Absurd argument
On the way to work this morning I was listening to NPR as usual and they were reporting on the Gay Marriages back east. Overall the reporting was very good and positive which was cool. The part that would have made me laugh had it not been such a serious argument came from one of the anti gay marriage protesters. He made the argument along the lines that issuing marriage licenses to gay and lesbian couples was akin to issuing counterfeit $20 bills and that every counterfeit bill there is in circulation devalues the genuine ones. This argument infuriates and baffles me. How could the marriage of a gay couple in San Francisco possibly have any effect what so ever on the strength of this man’s marriage in Phoenix or the love that he has for his wife. Its just nonsensical in my mind. Each Marriage, whether it be gay or straight, stands or falls on its own strength and through the work and the love that the couple puts into it. If his marriage in Phoenix is going to endure and weather the test of time it is going to be through the work and love that he and his wife put into it and there is nothing about marriages in Boston or San Francisco that can possibly change that.
Each time I hear these arguments it hurts more than a little – largely because I just don’t understand. I don’t understand why people completely uninvolved in the issue could spend so much time and energy attackng us in a very personal way when all we’re trying to do is live our lives… This cartoon (as goofy as it is) really hits the nail in the head
By legalizing marriage for gays and lesbians the government simply reinforces the legal constructs needed for these couples to be self sustaining that allow these couples to support themselves and reduce the burden to society that is incurred when individuals need assistance. When a single individual looses their job social welfare helps pay their bills – when part of a couple looses their job their spouse helps out instead.
Its a pretty simple concept if you ask me. But then again – that guy didn’t ask me (and probably wouldn’t cuz he doesn’t want to)
Congratulations
To all of those in Massachusetts who are getting married today… REALLY FUCKIN COOL! :):)
Get There faster!
Driving in to work today I was doing my usual surfing of conservative radio stations to see what kind of BS was being shoveled. Funny thing was though that when I hit one of them the hosts were talking about the the same issue in Tennessee that my previous post was about and the announcer was talking about how absurd it was. I think the direct quote I heard was ‘Its like outlawing people with brown hair’. WOW… You would have NEVER heard someone on one of these stations saying something like that even a handful of years ago. Kind of impressive to see people reaching these kind of conclusions..
Kind of reminds me of a Friends episode where Joey and Chandler were looking at Richard’s (Monica’s ex) video tape collection when they found a tape presumed to be a sex tape with “Monica” written on it… Slowly Joey put each piece together and figured out the deal – Chandler, getting impatient with how long it took Joey to reach the logical conclusion, yelled ‘Get there FASTER’…
This whole set of gay issues sort of feels like the same kind of thing. The country is slowly working out the logic in their head and realizing it all makes sense and isn’t a bad thing at all.. But MAN. I find my self wanting to scream the same thing…
Get there FASTER
