A nice weekend

Monday, July 25th, 2005 | Pete Stuff | 2 Comments

So after my rough week the weekend was definitely welcome and very nice.. Kevin and I celebrated our 6th anniversary on saturday and spent the day just hanging out. The weather was INSANELY hot but still really nice. We got up in the morning and packed up a lunch (actually kevin did the work on that one) and headed up to Mt. Tam. The goal was to go hiking up there but, after spending about 30 minutes walking around it was just too insanely hot to do much more – so we turned it into a driving tour instead – stopping at all of the pull outs and admiring the view. We had lunch at a big amphitheater up there and then drove slowly down and around the mountain.

Then.. After we got back to the city, showered, and took a nap, we headed over to Nickel spa and got massages which were AMAZING, had dinner at Red Grill and then headed over to Randy and Rick’s new place for their house warming. Night was fun though I did have a little more to drink than I probably should have thanks to Randy’s cosmo punch..

Then sunday was Daniel and Bert’s wedding which was SO NICE.. They had their wedding up at a hotel in Sausalito which was just stunning. The ceremony was really wonderful (especially how cool and loving their family was) and the dinner to follow was fantastic to boot..

All in all a great weekend.. just what the doctor ordered..

And next weekend? HRC Ball Saturday night followed by Dore Alley Street Fair… Looking forward to it! 🙂

Tennis ball meltdown

Wednesday, July 20th, 2005 | Pete Stuff | 1 Comment

Uggg… So yesterday was probably the closest i’ve ever come to just melting down into a puddle of jell-o underneath my desk. This week has been a SERIOUSLY rough one from all perspectives and its only Wednesday. I had what felt like a hundred different things going on at work all on the same day ranging from things I needed to work on with employees to customer drama to scheduling drama to you name it. In the middle of all of that I got a phone call from my Dad regarding my Grandma S who isn’t doing so well saying that she was about to go into surgery. All that combined with some other stuff that was lingering in my brain from before the day began all added up to a whole lot of stress all rolled up into one big ball.. I kinda felt like I was standing in front of a tennis ball pitching machine without a racquet. I REALLY have to learn how to stop, take a deep breath, and just take things one at a time – unfortunately my job and my life doesn’t allow that – I just have to do my best to keep all of the plates spinning and, if one has to fall, make sure its not the expensive one..

Anyway.. sorry… just had to vent and this seemed like a good place to do it… things are more under control today… still lots going on but at least my head isn’t about to explode! :):)

More to come!

REALLY Damn Lucky

Tuesday, June 28th, 2005 | Gay Stuff | Comments Off on REALLY Damn Lucky

I was cleaning out my office today and found a letter I had saved from my mom to her representative some years ago… Its things like this that make me feel SO lucky to have a family that is so wonderful and supportive. I still get choked up reading it… Just had to share

Tom – We’ve met a few times, most memorably at Amdahl corporation’s Good Government series talk and your activities with Amdahl and high school students. And, of course, I’ve voted for you consistently! 🙂

Now, I want to bend your ear and urge to hear my vote on gay adoption. My son is gay. He is also a very talented and responsible software engineer and manager at Apple Corporation. He is also a generous, moral, loving and giving individual… the type of individual who would be a blessing for any potentially adoptive child to have as a parent. However, because of ignorance, hatred, or other misguided reasons, he, and other gays, are continually lumped into groups of misfits, deviants, and others unsuitable for parenting. This stereotype not only is incorrect and hateful… and limiting to a gay individual’s ability to live well and without being an object of prejudice (and worse), but the stereotype also robs the community of a gay person’s ability to give. Adoption, with sufficient investigation of anyone’s qualifications and suitability, is a gift that an adult can give to a child in need. We, as a community, need these gifts.

I have been told that Rep. Steve Largent (R-OK) is planning on offering an amendment, perhaps as early as this evening (Tuesday),that would ban gays and lesbians from adopting in the District of Columbia. The amendment is to the DC Appropriations Bill (HR 2587). I strongly urge you to not only vote against this bill, but to use your influence to ensure that it is soundly defeated. You carry great influence in the House. Please use it here.

I’m so saddened to have to continually make sure my voice is heard about these awful anti-gay initiatives. I’m particularly disappointed at the extent to which the radical “religious right” seems to be disproportionately impacting the direction of the Republican party. However, I’ll stick to the issue at hand. Please tell Rep. Largent to stop – he’s dead wrong and we’re not going to tolerate his position.

Thanks for all you do.
