From the 7th Grade

Monday, June 16th, 2003 | Pete Stuff | 2 Comments

I just found this little thing I wrote in 7th Grade English in a Drawer here at work. The assignment was to describe the image shown in a picture she gave us. My parents and my teachers LOVED it.. I got an A.. To this day I STILL don’t know why.

A Pine Needle
Sight

A pine needle, deeply browned by the pasing of time, lay stuck in the greyish sand of an ocean shore. It limped very low as if saying I am tired of being battered by the clear ocean surf. A small ripple of water closed in on the needle, foaming at the edges like a dog gone mad. The water totally covered the sand like a blanket being pulled over a bed. The sand, dulled to a grey brown by the passing of time, layed motionless as if waiting for the tide to wash up.

Phelps and Pies…

Friday, June 13th, 2003 | Gay Stuff | Comments Off on Phelps and Pies…

I just found this over on go-fish and I FUCKING LOVE it so I had to pass it on. It seems that when charming ‘Reverend’ Fred Phelps showed up to protest the graduation ceremony for a Gay high school student receiving a Matthew Shepard scolarship the ‘Biotic Baking Brigade’ also chose to show up – pies in hand. The result? The school rallied in support of the student… I swear – good ol’ Mr Phelps has GOT to be the Christian Coalition and Colorado for Family Values’ worst nightmare – I LOVE IT…

Go check out her entry today… SO DAMN Funny and great.

Here are a couple of other related links:

And a few fun quotes:

“I think it’s made more people have Lincoln pride, and it’s unified our school,” said Jessica Reese, a junior at Lincoln.

Shannon Wenck, also a junior at Lincoln, agreed. She said the students have come together to back Carter.

“Even people who are homophobic support Julius,” she said.

Students and teachers all wore rainbow ribbons to Saturday’s ceremony in show of their support for Carter. Phelps’ group went to Drake University to stage another protest.

Thanks Nichole – you MADE MY MORNING! :):)

New York it is

So it looks like the verdict is New York…. Grappled with kevin for a while about where I could go to take a little time off from work without going someplace new and fun that he would miss out on (but still would be nice for me)… And the verdict is to go visit friends in New York… Yes – I’ve been to new york in the summer – it is a little hot at sticky (ok… a lot)… But I’ve got a bunch of friends I want to visit (couple of a gay priests and another san francisco defector) and I want to go out and not see the same collection of people I see all the time (not that I don’t love the san francisco boys – but I think a break would be nice)…

So – the plan? Fly to NYC on July 4th and return on the 15th… Spend some time with C & C and Scott on Manhattan… Go out.. corrouse.. get into all sorts of trouble… see some shows… get some culture… Then head out to Fire Island to visit Craig for a little bit (not sure how long he’ll have me).. Then head back home… Maybe some other stuff in there too – who knows.. ideas? 🙂

AND – I’ll be in NY on my Birthday… FUN!!! 7/7

Unfortunately, kevin can’t come… he has to work and we’re saving his vacation time so we can do something fun later… so i’m solo… watch out! 😉

I’m kind of excited… It’s a long time in new york though… Anyone else out there that wants to meet for coffee or a beer let me know – probably will have a spare cycle or two…

OUTSTANDING

DOJ Reverses Ban On Pride Celebration

its still not everything it should be (the gay group is still not being treated equally to the other groups in terms of funding and access) – but its nice to see the administration having to back peddle…

SO GREAT

Sunday, June 8th, 2003 | Pete Stuff | 2 Comments

I had SUCH a great time Kayaking this weekend… We went up EARLY saturday morning to Point Rayes (north of San Francisco)… Spent the morrning loading up the kayaks with all of our overnight gear and learning how to paddle (I knew how but many of the guys on the trip had never done it before).

Then we rowed across Tomales Bay passing by Hog island and seeing a TON of gulls, pellicans, seals, star fish, and even a bat ray. after passing hog island we rowed down the far side of the bay to our camp site.. Our camp site was a secluded beach inaccessible by land.. We pitched tents and spent the late afternoon / evening exploring the beach and hanging out.. That night the cooks made the most AMAZING paella and we hung out by the camp fire talking..

The next morning we got up to a wonderful breakfast and then went on a paddle down the coast further (deeper into the bay)… We saw deer climing the cliffs, hawks, jellyfish, and lots of other random stuff.. After rowing back and breaking down camp we rowed over to hog island and had a picnic lunch.. Then headed home..

SO NICE… SO PEACEFUL… SO BEAUTIFUL… Just what I needed…

The pictures are here

If you ever have a chance to go kayaking I highly recommend it… More importantly, if you ever have the chance to help out Healing Waters PLEASE do.. They are a GREAT organization and help a lot of people… I help by giving money but they also welcome volunteers or you can just check out one of their fundraising trips like this weekend’s… You’ll be REALLY glad you did.. I SWEAR!!!

( they have a fund raising trip to Costa Rica in January… anyone wanna come with me? :):):) )
