Animalversary
This Sunday was our 7th anniversary so Kevin and I decided to escape for the weekend. Friday night was low key (at least for me – Kevin went out for drinks with his coworkers which never ends well). Then Saturday morning we woke up and started figuring out what to do for the weekend. We went down to Bagdad Cafe for breakfast with a ‘Quick Trips in the SF Bay Area’ book under our arm.. After a few phone calls we booked a Hotel down in Half Moon Bay..
After Eating we climbed in the car and begun a trek down the peninsula. The original goal was to hit a B-Day party / Housewarming for a co-worker up in the mountains and then heading over the hills to Half Moon bay for dinner and the evening. Unfortunately because of the closing of Highway 1 at Devil’s slide EVERYONE who wanted to go to the beach turned out to be on the road we were supposed to take to the party. So after a lot of waiting in that traffic and taking a few bad back roads we ended up missing the party and having to straight to half moon bay.. The drive was nice though – we ended up driving down to Page Mill Drive and driving way up back roads in the mountains which was gorgeous…
When we got to Half Moon Bay we checked in to the Beach House Inn which was a really cute hotel on the coast with little apartments including kitchenettes and views of the beach and hills… We walked over to the Half Moon Bay Brewing company for a snack before going over to Cafe Gibraltar for dinner.
The next morning we got up, checked out, and drove down the coast to explore a little. We drove south on Highway 1 to explore a little bit. We checked out tide pools at Pescadero State Beach and then drove down the coast to Santa Cruiz – partially cuz it sounded like a nice drive and partially because we figured it’d be faster to go home through Santa Cruz than over 92… After exploring briefly and getting stuck in a bit of traffic because of a road race – we headed over Highway 17 and had lunch in Los Gatos before heading home.. We would have stayed longer but it was BLOODY HOT there – was about 110°.
And we ended the day at the Eagle – seemed to both of us like a fitting way to end our anniversary! :):)
Oh.. and we swapped these:
I’m not a big fan of the pomp and circumstance of ceremonies but the ring was important… Though we may have a party at some point! 🙂
SO SORE
So Kevin and I just started doing this Boot Camp SF thing on monday (not to be confused with Apple’s Boot Camp) The program started Monday and is 4 days a week (M, T, Th, F) at 6am in Golden Gate Park. So far it seems really cool but – OH MY GOD – its KICKING MY ASS…
Monday wasn’t bad – just stretching and fitness testing (body fat, pushups, situps, etc.).. But Tuesday was the 1.5 Mile run and then Stairs for the rest of the time. Oh my GOD – I was SO SORE yesterday. I was actually kinda proud of myself – I managed to do all the running without stopping (the stairs was on the edge of stopping – but I survived).. Really surprised myself though – figured i’d drop far sooner…… And then today we did all this strength training including LOTS of running, jumping, and rolling around in the sand.
and then there’s the whole changed diet thing to go along with it.
this is gonna kill me… I”m gonna be walking funny for weeks… But its gonna be really good at the end..
But DAMN! 🙂
First snow.. Now Meat…
So, in case I haven’t mentioned it before, I have the commute of doom. I live in San Francisco and have a 45 mile drive every morning to haul my ass to Cupertino for work. I love the job and I love living in San Francisco so I don’t mind the commute – and i’m sure my Audi dealer loves it too for the same reason my Dentist loves this box of Jujyfruits sitting on my desk! 🙂
Anyway – along that commute I’ve seen all SORTS of weird things along the way. I’ve seen drivers doing the usual daily shaving, makeup, and hair. I’ve seen people reading everything from work paperwork to novels to newspapers. I’ve been nearly run off the road by people engaged in cell phone conversations – I can spot ’em 4 cars away at this point since they tend to drive by brail (those of you not in California should should read about Bott’s dots to know what I mean). I’ve even seen someone playing a Guitar while driving..
But this month has taken the cake… On my way home two Fridays ago it SNOWED on me on the way home. I’m not talking a few flakes. I’m talking the freeway was WHITE and scared drivers were on the side of the road looking confused.. it was DAMN FUNNY…
And then yesterday – there was Meat… No seriously.. MEAT ON THE FREEWAY. Driving north on 101 last night I tuned into the radio to figure out why I had been sitting still so long I had time to put the car in park and read a magazine. The traffic report informed me that a butcher truck had lost its load and there was meat on the freeway and they had closed down all 4 lanes to clear it off. When I got up to the scene later I saw what they were talking about – there was probably 3 some cows worth of butchered meat and what looked like cow or pig carcasses. REALLY FOWL. And can you imagine what it must have been like driving directly behind that truck – must have been like some strange mix of terror and incredibly funny. Stakes on your windshield..
Anyway.. Was funny – had to share! 🙂
Happy friday…
Over the years
UPDATE: Sorry – I pulled the images from this one.. Something started creeping me out about people having images of my passport – even if its been edited.. ask me if ya wanna see the pix
As I was getting ready for my trip to NAB I realized my passport information at work was out of date… When I pulled out my current passport I also found my old passports so I figured I’d share (with sensitive info bleeped out of course)…
This passport was my very first passport. I got this when I was a little kid for a trip to London with my Dad, Mary Ellen, and Charles (my dad’s girlfriend at the time and her son who was my age)…
This passport was from High School when I went to Germany for the summer as an Exchange student. I lived in a small town named Vaihingen enz Ensingien with a family for the first half and then I lived in a youth hostel outside of Hamburg for the second half.
This one was from my senior year of college when my buddy Marshall and I spent 3 some weeks in europe before we stepped into the real world. The week after graduation we flew over to europe and went to Frankfurt, Berlin, Vienna, Salzburg, Zurich, Eindeidln, Rome, and then back to Frankfurt… Lots of fun
And this one is my current passport. This one and my high school one have all sorts of stamps on ’em… 🙂
Anyway.. They made me smile so I figured I’d share..
Spring Cleaning
This weekend was crazy productive. We both spent a TON of time purging old crap from around the house. I’ve managed to create a huge heap of good will clothes, a pile of DVDs to take to streetlight, a HUGE stack of books to give away, and more trash than you could imagine. Kevin did the same! :)… And… Of course, durinig the process I found all sorts of goodies.. But some of the best (or the worst actually) I figured I’d share… So here goes… As embarrased as I am to share it with y’all, here are some pix of me from high school and college:
This one is from prom my Sophomore year. I was so proud of myself cuz I managed to muster the courage to ask Marla to her senior prom. Was a lot of fun! :
These two are from my Senior prom in 1988. I went with my best buddy Kim and doubled with our friends Hans and Deanna.
And this one is one of my senior pictures (the informal one):
And, last but not least, is one that was taken of me in college for an Apple Ad campaign. Ya gotta love the high tops and acid wash jeans.. YIKES..
Anyway… Had to share! 🙂 (Click on any of ’em to make ’em larger)
Happy Sunday
I’ve been informed
That Don Knotts has been at the top of my blog too long and I’d better post something… So here goes! 🙂
A whole lot of the same lately, thus the lack of posting… Weeks have been spent working for the most part – LOTS going on at work though, as usual, I really can’t talk about any of it here. Joys of working on and planning products that aren’t out the door yet. Sometimes it frustrates me that I can’t talk about it more but thats the name of the game I suppose..
Last weekend was fun though. Kevin and I spent 4 days in Miami for our friend Tony’s birthday. We flew down friday AM and stayed at a hotel called the Blue Moon (name made me giggle but I can’t say I recommend it). Friday we spent exploring the beach and South Beach. Interesting town I’ve gotta say. It kinda reminded us of Vegas but with prettier people. Friday night we had dinner and hung out with Clayton who was in town for the Winter Party ( we weren’t there for that but the rest of the gay boys were )…
Saturday day we spent scuba diving off the coast of Miami. The dives were interesting but not the best once we’ve been on. The first dive wasn’t all that great. I was having equipment trouble (mask started hurting me after 10 minutes in the water) and the dive site wasn’t all that interesting. To further complicate things we had trouble keeping track of the boat so I spent a good amount of time worrying that we’d gotten lost. We never were actually very far from the boat but being the worry wart that I am I fussed about it a lot.. The second dive was much better. It was actually a dive around a bunch of 6′ pipes that had been sunk off the coast – lots of things growing on them and swimming around them. We stayed close to the anchor line and explored around them – very cool..
Saturday night was Tony’s party at a bar called Buck15 in South beach. Party was a lot of fun – we actually knew a bunch of people there as it turned out. Tony moved away from San Francisco a while ago and his friends at the party were from all over. Some friends of mine from YEARS ago who had since moved to London were there, our friend Tim who had just reappeared after a long stint of relationship-itis, our friend Adam, and a bunch of others. Aside from drama at the end caused by too much alcohol and too much flirting the part was a lot of fun…
Sunday and monday after that were pretty low key – explored a little.. Slept a lot.. Went out to dinner… Watched the oscars.. That kind of stuff…
Overall a lot of fun but I can’t say Miami is much my kinda place.. was nice havin a break from the rain though! 🙂
Anyway.. Back to my weekend.. TTFN
